Tuesday Tea & Tunes II

You may remember back in the day when I posted a "Tuesday Tea & Tunes", or you may not, it was awhile ago! As it happens to be Tuesday, I figured it would be fun to post another music and tea suggestion (link in photo caption).

I would like to share an album I've been listening to non-stop the past few weeks: Reflektor, by Arcade Fire. Recently I rekindled my love for Arcade Fire, a band I've always adored but haven't heard in ages. They popped up in the soundtrack of one of my favorite movies, "Her" and I binge-listened to the movie soundtrack for awhile, not realizing that Reflektor was being recorded at the same time. Reflektor is their fourth album and was released back in 2013.

Pitchfork Media even recognized it as apart of the "100 Best Albums of the Decade So Far" so you know it's gotta be good! Checkout the Spotify playlist below.

A few of my favorite tracks include "Afterlife," "Joan of Arc," & "Flashbulb Eyes."

Highlights from Spring Break Week I

Happy Monday!

With week one of Spring Break behind us (I have two weeks of Spring Break), I decided to post a highlights of the week.  Although, because I have two weeks of Spring Break, I decided to wait to do a cumulative "Highlights of Spring Break"until later this week.  Rather, I would like to post a specific highlight of last week - enjoying dinner at Rickshaw Republic, an Indonesian restaurant in Chicago.

Sadly, these Iphone shots definitely don't do justice to the beauty of the restaurant.  Everything was so traditionally decorated with a modern twist.  And not only was the restaurant beautifully decorated, the food was amazing. I recommend the Mie Goreng (fried noodles -- photo #3) and for desert, the Es Cendol (coconut milk with Indonesian palm sugar -- photo #2).

It was so nice to find a place to enjoy traditional Indonesian food.  It reminded me of past summers spent in Malaysia enjoying Cendol on the hot summer days.

Slide Sunday I

Don Francis - His girl - Jany - Dick Anderson - 1954
S. Haven 1953
Betty Lynne - Mom - Grandma -- Daudgnt G- 1954 Gables
Holland Tulip Festival - 1953

Woohoo! Happy (finally) Slide Sunday!
Here they are - the first set of four.

Some background - I found these 35mm color slides at a thrift store in Michigan.
On the side of the box it's written - "1951-57.  S. Haven, Biloxi, Germany & Switzerland."

It was exciting to bring the life of these beautiful Kodachrome color slides to light.  I hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoyed discovering them. There's nothing more beautiful than Kodachrome film.  As Paul Simon put it: "Kodachrome: They give us those nice bright colors They give us the greens of summers Makes you think all the world's a sunny day."

Excited to post more in the upcoming weeks! Have a wonderful week

* Captions are as written on slides (a bit of interpreting takes place for messy handwriting/aged slides)

Highlights From Last Week

Happy Tuesday! As apart of my promise to post more over Spring Break, I've decided to post a "highlights" post a bit earlier in the week.  Here are a mixture of pictures from last week and the week before. To start, there's a shot from the girly Bed and Breakfast I spent the night in during a college visit (many more photos to come!).  Then there's the dome of the Lake Forest Library where I had some of my photos for an exhibit.  Next, a cup of tea from a coffee date with my two favorite girlies, Annmarie and Sasha, post-St. Patrick's Day parade madness.  Below, my woman crush Wednesday for the week, miss Zoe mid-homework.  Followed by a shot of a stool in the ceramics room where I spent an hour distracting Zoe and a couple of the other ceramic students. And last but not least, a shot of Aniz and Rumi (also took a few on film, looking forward to getting those developed!).  Excited to be back to posting, I've missed the rambling and excitement of blogging!
Take care

Quick Check In Post

Room Part I, 35mm color film

Room Part II, 35mm color film

Alas, with Spring Break finally here, I thought I would do a quick check in post along with these two photos from the recent batch of color film I had developed this week!

First and foremost, an apology is in order for my recent (and far too long) hiatus. Valentine's Day was a little over a month ago yet it's the last thing I posted (yikes).

With spring break here and two rolls of color film recently developed, and lots of picture taking in-between, I'm excited to start posting more (I promise!).  Hopefully this Sunday I will finally begin Slide Sunday (in case you forgot, click here).

More to come - promise, promise, promise! Enjoy the weekend

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for - the paper heart doilies, the cute napkins, the pink desserts, you name it! Although I can't take credit for the heart shaped doughnuts (I drove to three different Dunkin' Doughnuts to find them Saturday morning!). Below, I have attached recipes for a few of the desserts we enjoyed on Valentine's Day (thank you for making them Mom!).
I will however take credit for the mock-polaroid photos. They were super easy to make and to be honest, a complete accident the first time I made one. Just print square photos on 4X6 paper and cut off the top leaving a bit of a white edge and voila, you've got yourself a polaroid look-alike!

Hope you're enjoying your week! More posts to come (they piled up while I was out of space on my computer so now I'm doing some mass-editing)

Galentine's Day

Better late than never, right? Now that I've finally cleared up some space on my computer I'm finally getting around to editing some photos from last month - woohoo!

These were taken on Galentine's Day (the day before Valentine's day dedicated to celebrating your "gals").  I spent it with my two favorite gals at a local cafe enjoying milkshakes and coffee.  It was the perfect way to spend the day!

Valentine's Post to hopefully come soon! Have a wonderful week
